  • Before you set out on any hike, let someone know where you plan to go and when you expect to return.
  • Make sure you have plenty of water, a small First Aid kit, nutritious snacks, sun protection, and insect repellent.
  • Summertime is rattlesnake season; be alert and watch where you step and place your hands.

Heaps Peak Arboretum Trail (Very Easy)

Featuring 24 points of interest, this trail is an easy, self-guided walk, through native wildflowers and plants. Open 365 days a year, the arboretum is free to the public and easily accessed from Highway 18, about ¾ of a mile east of Skypark Santa’s Village.

Heart Rock (Fairly Easy)

This mostly shaded jaunt, located in the neighboring town of Crestline, is a meandering forest walk, over occasional roots and rocks. The trail follows a stream, leading to the main attraction: a heart shaped hole in a boulder, carved there by the ravages of time.  Several small pools make for great places to dip your feet. The trailhead is located next to Camp Seely, where several scenes for the 1998 version of The Parent Trap movie were filmed. 

Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (Moderate)

Although the entire Pacific Crest Trail stretches 2,600 miles from the Canadian to the Mexican border, portions of the trail weave through the Lake Arrowhead region.  You’ll find multiple entry and exit points along this 40-mile Lake Arrowhead Hiking Trails 5portion of the trail. Plan to spend at least a few hours, half-day, or overnight. Aside from experiencing the beauty of nature, you will enjoy the cool on this historic trail.

Pinnacles Peak Hiking Trail (Difficult)

The Pinnacles trail head is located next to the rifle range on Highway 178. But be forewarned; this hike involves actual rock climbing to reach the top of various peaks. But after climbing, you will be rewarded by stunning 360-degree mountaintop views.
